Annual Growth Photos- A New Years Day Tradition

I love traditions. I also love documenting the simple things in life. A few years ago Sarah Cornish with My Four Hens Photography encouraged me to take simple portraits of my son. I fell in love with the simplicity of an unposed black and white portrait.

I decided that I would start taking these on the morning of New Years Day, while everyone was still in pajamas, with bed-head and lazy smiles. This is my third year doing it and I’m just so amazed with how much my boy has changed over the last few years. The images below are from 2017 (age 3), 2018 (age 4) and now 2019 (age 5). I just took my Bradley’s first portrait as he just celebrated his very first New Year! I’m excited to continue this tradition and hope to encourage you all to document your days. Go back to basics and capture your kids raw natural features. Nothing fancy, just them in all their beautifulness.
